Finally a green light for green-focused business park

A revolutionary new business park at Hessle, close to the Humber Bridge, secured outline planning permission today promising innovative offices, research & development space and high tech light manufacturing facilities, set to create more than 3,000 new jobs.

The site, Bridgehead, totals 52.6 acres comprising a total of 612,708 sq ft accommodation set over 2 sites, either side of Boothferry Road and has been brought forward by Bridgeland Ltd, a joint venture between The Wykeland Group and K B Properties.

The consent also includes junction improvements to the A63 west bound off slip at Ferriby, two A3 café units and a pedestrian crossing over Boothferry Road.

The consent comes with a comprehensive list of conditions agreed between the developer and East Riding of Yorkshire Council that will enable the Council to control the development and alleviate any local concerns.

The Bridgeland team has been working on the proposed scheme for more than 13 years and has undertaken extensive statutory and local consultations, such is the site’s significance in terms of size, location and proposed future use.

Dominic Gibbons, Managing Director of Wykeland said today: “This is great news after 13 long years of hard work, patience and dedication from the team, on a scheme that we really believe will have a huge positive impact on the region. Our next step will be to work through the conditions agreed today with a view to progressing the development as soon as possible.”

Work is initially expected to commence on the infrastructure within the next 12 months. The scheme proposes a high quality sustainable business environment comprising an integrated landscape/biodiversity strategy, a travel plan encouraging non car usage, a community liaison group, pathways around the site open to the public, on site drainage treatment and landscaping to more than 44% of the completed development.

The application has been supported by a detailed design and access statement that is to be used as the site’s design code for the future construction of the site, as one of the conditions of the planning consent.

Dominic added: “On a national level, employment trends are shifting towards more knowledge based companies, that demand high quality working environments and therefore we believe that the Bridgehead site will be perfectly poised to offer such businesses a home of national quality and significance.”
