£4.5M Office & manufacturing development handed over to the new owner

A £4.5m office and manufacturing complex created by Hull property company Wykeland Group Ltd has been officially handed over to its new owner.

The building at Melton West Business Park, Melton, East Yorkshire, was commissioned by generating sets manufacturer Allam Marine to facilitate the company’s ongoing expansion.

The state-of-the-art development adds 65,000sqft to Allam Marine’s existing 190,000sqft base, enabling it to double manufacturing capacity and increase warehousing and distribution space by a third.

Keys were handed to managing director Assem Allam in a ceremony this week, clearing the way for the company to move into its new headquarters.

The building is part of ongoing work at Wykeland’s Melton West Business Park development which is already home to big-name firms including Heron Foods, House of Townend and shower manufacturer Kohler Mira.

Work started at Melton West in early 2008 and since that time Wykeland Group has developed more than 550,000sqft of premium commercial space at the site, including the region’s only speculative development.

Dominic Gibbons, managing director of Wykeland Group, said the Allam Marine building was an example of what could be achieved by creative approaches to design and construction methods.

He said: “It is a landmark building on what we believe is East Yorkshire’s most desirable commercial development. We are extremely pleased with the finished product; it is bold and modern in design, yet built very much with function in mind.

“Finally being able to hand the keys to Assem represents another significant step forward in the growth of the Melton West Business Park. It will enable Allam Marine to continue its long run of unbridled success and that is great news for the company and for the wider regional economy.”

Hull builder Hall Construction Ltd was appointed by Wykeland as contractors on the project.

Work commenced in October last year and was completed earlier this month.

Receiving the keys, Assem Allam said: “We have watched the building get closer to completion over recent months and have been very excited about moving in. Finally that day has come.

“The new headquarters means we will have the space we need to continue our strategy of growth without having to look for premises elsewhere.

“The building looks fantastic and is very befitting of Allam Marine’s status of being the UK’s largest independent manufacturers of generating sets and one of the biggest in Europe. It will showcase to the many foreign visitors we receive the quality of commercial developments being created right here in East Yorkshire.”
