The Wykeland Group, developers of Flemingate £70m shopping and leisure scheme, has today officially launched Beverley’s new complimentary shuttle bus service for passengers – connecting Flemingate to other key locations in the town centre on a Saturday.
Founded by Wykeland and operated by Hull-based East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS), the Flemingate branded 29-seater, single decker bus travels through the ancient North Bar, the first time a bus has done so in 45 years. Running in a continuous circular route, the hop-on hop-off service allows passengers to move quickly and easily between The Georgian Quarter, Wednesday Market, Saturday Market, the Minster and Flemingate, including East Riding College’s Beverley Campus.
The free service was opened to the public for its maiden route at 9am on Saturday, November 7, and represents the commitment Wykeland has made to ensure all of Beverley thrives from the opening of Flemingate.
Commenting on the launch of the service, Dominic Gibbons, Managing Director of Wykeland Group, said: “The launch of the shuttle bus highlights Wykeland Group’s commitment to Beverley and the key role Flemingate plays in the town. Not only does it help visitors to other parts of Beverley get to Flemingate quickly, easily and conveniently, the shuttle bus will ensure the rest of the town benefits from the high footfall Flemingate is generating. This is a great step for Beverley and one we are delighted to be supporting.”
Claire Robinson, EYMS Marketing Manager, added: “We are excited to be working in conjunction with Flemingate to offer this new bus route around the town centre. This service is important for the local community and enables shoppers and students to make the most of all that Beverley has to offer.”
The initial phase Flemingate, East Yorkshire’s newest shopping and leisure destination, opened on November 3. Flemingate’s line-up of leading brands includes Debenhams, H&M, Wilko, Poundland, The Entertainer, Trespass, Costa and Patisserie Valerie. In addition, independent retailers Bolo and Guest & Philips have both opened stores, alongside Deli No.1. In addition, the new six-screen, 1,000-seat, Parkway cinema launches in December, with more new shops and restaurants joining the line-up in the spring, including Outfit. An 80-room Premier Inn, 500-space multi-storey car park, the largest in Beverley, a new campus for East Riding College, and 130 homes complete the £120 million Flemingate development.
This free transport link from Flemingate to and from the town centre will be available every Saturday from 9am – 6pm. In addition to this service, the 246, operating between Hornsea and Beverley, and new route for Service X80 will give residents of Hessle, Anlaby, Willerby and Cottingham an easy way to get to Flemingate.
