Wykeland Group and Parkway Cinemas have confirmed that work has started on the fit-out of the Parkway cinema at Flemingate, Wykeland’s new shopping and leisure destination in Beverley, the first phase of which opens at the end of October. An anchor brand of the upcoming 162,561 sq ft development, the 33,723 sq ft Parkway cinema will have 1,000 seats across six screens once completed.
As well as the latest in sound and projection technology, the cinema will also feature a purpose built stage and theatre specifically designed for live shows and events. The operator, Parkway, is an independent family business running cinemas in Cleethorpes, Louth and Barnsley.
Commenting on the start of the fit out of the Parkway cinema, Scott Marshall, Managing Director of Parkway Entertainment Company, said: “As an independent business, we only invest where we believe we can make a real difference to the community, and Beverley is exactly the right place for our newest cinema.
“With the support of Wykeland who developed the Flemingate scheme, and Barclays who are supporting the build, we’re looking forward to offering a great cinema experience.”
Lee Collinson, Managing Director for Barclays Corporate and SME for Yorkshire and the North East, also said: “It is great to support this prestigious development which will create jobs and support growth in the East Yorkshire economy. Creating a new retail and leisure destination will add to Beverley’s growing popularity as a destination, and the six screen multiplex cinema will be state of the art and a real boost for Beverley and the local economy.”
Dominic Gibbons, Managing Director of Wykeland Group, added: “The cinema is one of the key elements of Flemingate and we are very excited it is moving ever closer to opening. It will act as an excellent attraction for Flemingate, alongside which we have developed a great retail and leisure mix for visitors, be they local or travelling from across the region.”
The announcement follows a steady stream of brands secured for Flemingate, including H&M, Outfit, The Entertainer, Zizzi’s, Costa Coffee and a 40,000 sq ft new concept store for Debenhams. The destination will also have a 500-space multi-storey car park, the largest in Beverley, and an 80-room Premier Inn hotel.
